Calstar adds another one to the list

Was at Calstar on friday with owners Leon and Pat Todd. They were kind enough to follow up on my request for a 770XH railrod. Well a couple weeks later a 770XXH was developed and I thought it was over but the 770XXXH is now on the way. This rod is for the big boys. We will be seeing them on tuesday at the shop in limited quantities. Also I was lucky enough to be given one of their prototype 765XXXH to build and test. We will be seeing alot of new items from calstar at the Fred Hall show. Check out my booth. Eric

Ventura county local in super bowl the "asian assassin"

From wikipedia "Scott Anthony Fujita ( born April 28, 1979 in Ventura, California) is an American football linebacker for the National Football League's New Orleans Saints. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, earning a BA in political science in 2001 and an MA in education in 2002."

"Although Fujita's last name is Japanese, he is Caucasian, and he is the adopted son of Rodney Fujita, who is Japanese-American, and his wife Helen, who is Caucasian.[2][3] His father was one of the Japanese-Americans interned during World War II; his father's family was held at the Gila River War Relocation Center.[4]
Fujita grew up in a traditional Japanese household, celebrating Japanese festivals and holidays, and eating with chopsticks. His grandparents have several bonsai trees on their property. Because of his upbringing, he considers himself to be culturally Japanese.
He attended Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard, California."

I have to add that to top it off he married my second cousin Jaclyn Maulhardt. Great job under dogs!

Is it just me?

Either i'm crazy or the guys around here don't like chasing giant squid. Looking at the counts down below these squid are wide. Has anyone tried to find any here? How about a trip to look? Who wants to be the hero? I have heard of fish off newport, redondo, monterey bay and even heard a commercial boat was free gaffing them off of Rosa last week. If anyone is interested maybe we could get a charter together. All I know is it's getting boring. Bent rods eric

Excel pounding the cows!

Three more cows by locals caught on the f/v Excel. The left photo is Surf icon Al Merrick with a 200+ fish and VT in the next two photos with 200+ pounders. VT's fish are #2 and #3 cow for him on the trip. Great job Justin on finding the big fish. eric
